Okay,
After Mike's roasted me on tonight's Comp4 class,I ought to post some of my music)
But anyway,Its my first post here...havent use forums for ,like, 10 years. Where can I introduce myself and write more about what help/suggestions I seek (in Mike's classes mostly and here),is this thread a good place or there is specific room for rookies ?)

So,as a prequel to my questions will be small background.

I was never tought how to read or write music,as a result I have absolutely no ability to read or write scores. I never attended to musical school,nor had a teacher,never learned any instrument "properly" - but somehow I was very interested in music and gradually started to learn everything on my own. I came to "composing" or simply write my own music from sound engineering and I can write a tune or two (or twenty)),but as you can hear ,I suck at a piano and my overall "knowing" about how to write music reminds me a fundament, but with lots of holes,as a colander))
@Mike mentioned - "forget the theory,just write" - well,its even easier ,I never had one) And I always write everything that I wrote from the heart and by ear.
BUT
I feel like I amd touching the ceiling of my abilities and wanted to learn/extend skills - whatever thats works. Push the boundaries,If you will. And then I stumbled across Mike's classes somewhere in the internet,and man - this man explain everything in plain language.

Yes,I've seen Comp1-3,very-very much hyped about Comp4; I've purchased a lot of classes already and some of them are on repeat already,some of them (like all that jazz I simply couldnt digest,so I will take place later)
I found structure very useful, Mod Squad and Theminator were most fulfilling;

Well,I do work on the gigs and as they are mostly half-Zimmerish task,half who knows what, I would like to understand and extend my skills to conquer that Adventure sound. Of 80s. or of 90s)) whatever) Right now,John William's stuff sounds like complete magic to me,so much is going on and roots are in the symphonic pieces,which is hard to understand on your own. A year ago ,action scenes with different 5/8 etc measures was a complete mystery to me and now,with help of classes and work I kind of do get them. But directors never asked me for John Williams stuff - nor could I possibly provide - thats just for me. I believe,understanding Horner/Silvestri/Goldsmith (I took those classes,very insteresting,mostly because the stuff turns out to be simple) - understanding them will extend vocabulary ,and even if the task is to make 90min of Jason Bourne music,I could implement something different in it. Thats my goal at least.

So,if to sum it up,I can do what I do and you can hear the level. I want to learn,how to go places from there.

 

Yeah,I do sit at piano more and more and see/print chords more and more ,this certainly helps
