    Hey does the end of this B section feel like it works? I think I'm just used to hearing it now and I can't tell if it's cool or just plain weird.

    Works? Not 100 % sure what you mean by the term. That it's material is consistent with what preceded it? No abrupt change in musical character that leaves a less than satisfying listening experience?

    It seems like a unified aesthetic/soundworld to me. "Weird" never crossed my mind when listening. A 5-4-3-2-1 ending in C major hardly ever does.

    Yep that's what I meant. I was fiddling around with good ways of bringing the A theme back in after it hits the tonic and this seemed cool until I gave it a listen later and it kinda took me by surprise. The other option I had was to just bounce back and forth between I and VII (like a rhythmic intro thingy) and then dive back into the main melody. I think that version had been in my head too long, and so when I listened to this one it sounded kinda "weird."

    Hej namesake ;)

    Nice piece so far. Reminds a bit on some video game themes, there is a bit of that old Zelda thing in your motif. However, I think you are good to go and try out some orchestration. The 35 second - 40 second mark could be a bit iron out because it implies that you go a bit deeper with that development but you don´t actually..but man apart from that I think I have nothing major to complain so far. Would be interesting to hear an orchestrated version.

    yeah this is what I was wondering about, because it kinda feels like its "dragging" you away to something new but then just doesn't lol. I think I might just keep it, and then use that point for a development section later on.

    my plan is to write like 5 solid ABA themes as piano sketches, and then take mikes orchestration 1 class and start doing mockups of them. I have some rough ideas sketched out for this but nothing real solid yet.

    Hey Alex,

    Just head on with creating some tunes. Its great that you practise that. Also..mate, the pieces can be short..just a minute or so. You know..just write good stuff, take your time. Also a good thing might be: Take a melody of yours and reharmonize it. You know there is this thing what Mike also does a lot. Having control over that gives you a couple of options to present your theme in many different ways. Having that tool in your pocket can also safe quite a lot of time. Its just one developmental tool but a strong one. Especially effective for simple motif where you can stretch interest rather than presenting new ideas. I remember I used the star wars main title (a part of it) and reharmonized the crap out of it simply for reason of training. Its fun and it also strenghten your ears and simply..you play cool things on the piano. That can´t be bad at all. :D
    Head on mate and looking forward to new pieces.

    Also orchestration 3 might be interesting for you where Mike goes through many presets and what the good thing is that he presents it a practical example so you can really work with it.

    Hey Alex,
    This is a great tool that I've actually been doing a lot of recently, mostly when I'm writing something and I want to explore all my options. (it is also pretty fun haha, i can get lost for a couple hours in rehashing my chords around.) I think it was composition 1 where Mike was talking about reharmonizing nursery rhymes for practice? Good stuff.

    That sounds great, I think that will help me a lot. do you recommend working through the first two orchestration classes before heading to the third? or is it more of a standalone type thing?
