Light Comedy/Adventure Action scene

    Fellow composers,

    I'm on the gig here to make a music for a film,which has Comedy/Adventure vibe. The temp track was "Pirates Of Caribbean",obvously. Thats what producers wanted.
    So after having a melody and almost tutti chords,it makes it all rhytmic, which I like, it lets the scene to run. But I think I'm missing something...I feel like it lacks something between those tutti chord stacks.
    What would you put in there,to support its running mood?

    (tamborine is a first thing comes to mind,but I gravitate towards hitting it with tutti,what else could be there?..)
    (In HZ Pirates there is lots of percussion going on under the strings and brasses, but I dont want to do that,because it adds more WEIGHT to the track,and it needs to be "small,light,almost childish adventure,not when two ship battling each other,I have smaller scale of adventure))



    Any input counts!

    Hello Ryan,

    So, first of all, I think that this track already feels slightly heavy just because of the instrument ensemble choices. Don´t you think that the producers although they briefly want an impression of the temp would like to have something which is not so heavy in orchestration? I mean think of using also instrumentation following some of the track featured here:



    I mean you definitely are closer to the team, so go ahead with what feels right for you. I still thought to give you some references. So how about featuring more solo instruments rather than just that brick wall tutti orchestra.

    Other than that: Sure you can add your tambourine or other shaker instruments or smaller percussions like

    Hahah,the picture does it all)) Anything from tonal instruments,not from percussion?... Like,maybe I should give lower cellos or vlas to do the constant work?..
    By the way,how far can I go with Bass notes "not playing the same as melody"?...

    To answer your previous question - I do have more lighter versions in the film,for this example I picked most "intense" chasing scene and its "pre"-last scene before the end of the movie,so culmination-wise its okay. I was referring "not adding weight" to more of HZs "huge toms" "epic" percussion,because even if its one of the "intense chasing scenes",its still "light" movie Overall.

    BTW - here is interesting question.
    In one of Mike's masterclasses,he covered something along the lines ,that "usually ,if we have something rhythmic, (like my track here), there is no Harmony Chord/notes, that just sit there,underneath staccato melody." Meaning, bar-long like chords under,while staccato melody sets melody And rhythm. True or not?
