Looking for j-pop/rock songs/artists to listen/transcribe

    Hey guys!
    I have been approached by a game developer from Tokyo to make music and sfx also, a bit afterwards (which I kind of expected to be asked about since it is a new startup developer) for a j-rpg video game with manga art style.
    The project is a dream coming true and the dev is a nice guy who knows what he wants with the story and how to do it and gives me complete freedom so that is all awesome. The dev is actually from my country, Croatia but moved couple years ago to Tokyo and it turned out that we have a common friend with whom I was classmate in high school, hahhah, small world, I just had to share that story.
    I feel that this must be that first commercial project for my portfolio I just hope it will get finished since it seems a lot of new devs in the end don't manage to get funding and finish the project, but this project at least seems doable regarding the demands to make it.

    I was already I would say respectably acquainted with music from japanese video games and some anime but am looking for more, I feel like discovering some pop songs with lyrics, it can again be for video games, anime (since they like also to feature them sometimes in video games and anime) or standalone pop music.
    Something of course with nice melody and harmony (I have an impression that they didn't abandon melody and harmony even in pop music unlike in the west)

    Here is something I found I dig (the chorus and that nice development after first chorus at least) but it can be any mood or style of course.

    hi, yes, I had the same impression and I found that japan pop/rock music in the latest years thanks God they are still doing good songs with memorable melodies and very interesting arrangements. Something like songs that here in Europe and in the west in general artists did from 70's to 2000...

    Anyway I am huge fan of japan anime soundtracks which sounds not really "japan" but for me they are like good west film soundtracks, they make me feel exactly like when I listen to beautiful film soundtracks of famous composers...

    For POP/ROCK listen on youtube or spotify these artists: LISA (who did Crossing Field, Shirushi, etc.) -
    SCANDAL (a group of 3 women) - MINAMI - T-SQUARE - Leo Ieiri, and in general look for anime openings playlists, you will find so much good songs from many many japan artists... from 90's to today

    Instead for SOUNDTRACKS search OST and then the anime name: Inuyasha - Marmalade Boy - Hokuto no ken - My hero academia - One piece - Digimon - Nana

    I'm sure you already know many of these and there are even others beautiful... they are some new some older and they're not all orchestral music but still very good tracks/melodies
