1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

New guy posting my first track

  1. Hey everybody! so I randomly stumbled upon mikes videos on youtube and they led me here. I'm a beginner composer who has been on a search for like minded people to share with and improve. red banned seems like a great place to get brutally honest feedback, and that is exactly what I have been looking for.

here is a track I wrote about a month ago. i would love to hear some first impressions on the vibe, and any other thoughts you guys have about the structure, composition, and orchestration.

    Thanks!

  3. Hey Doug! thanks for the idea, I think I know what you mean about the climax. i really struggled with the structure of this track, had to rewrite the B section like 5 times because it kept leading me to a place that made no sense haha. I ended up writing myself into a corner and then throwing a weird modulation and climax at the end to try and save it. kind of worked, kind of didn't haha.

the article on the golden ratio was an interesting read, thanks for that.
question: do you use this ratio as a general rule for structure in your own music? and if so how do you usually approach that while writing?

    thanks again for the feedback!
